OMV is an integrated international oil, gas and chemicals company, leader in central and eastern Europe, has relied on LA LÍNEA VERTICAL to carry out the internal dismantling of the crude oil distillation tower using work-at-height techniques.
The main crude oil distillation column in Schwechat refinery, southeast of Vienna, was damaged on June 3 while carrying out the water pressure test, just when the turnaround maintenance works were arriving to the end. LA LINEA VERTICAL was consulted and, together with the OMV turnaround team, studied and implemented the best way to carry out the dismantling work.
LA LÍNEA VERTICAL, a leading rescue, maintenance, and inspection company, periodically carries out height inspections at the OMV refinery. It was the first company to undertake repair work in the column.
“Performances like this permits LA LÍNEA VERTICAL to show its capabilities using working at height techniques in the international market”, explains Vanessa Escoí Tena, International Business Manager and Projects Director in LA LÍNEA VERTICAL.
The work consisted in dismantling the internal parts (trays and structures) of the column with the main purpose of accessing to the repair at the bottom. The dimensions of the column were 52 meters high and more than 8 meters in diameter and mostly of the internals were very damaged.
LA LÍNEA VERTICAL has used only vertical work techniques with the support of a large tonnage crane. Up to eighteen specialists in maintenance work at height have been employed in the repair, with high safety measures, without reporting any incident and reducing the scheduled time.
