As part of our commitment to caring for the environment, at LA LÍNEA VERTICAL we have made progress towards our goal of consuming only green energy with the installation of photovoltaic panels at our headquarters in La Línea de la Concepción.
A team of technicians from the Algeciras-based company Metaelect.System, led by José María Butrón, has installed the panels on part of the roof of the warehouse, without the need to raise the roof. In this way, the panels themselves act as a roof, fully integrating into the installations and generating electricity for their own consumption. The surplus of this energy is fed into the general electricity grid and can be consumed by neighbouring buildings.

Specifically, 38 panel units have been installed on a surface area of 95 square metres, which means more than 20 kW of electrical power. In this way, the power has been adapted to the consumption of the building and the building has become practically self-sufficient, because, according to José María Butrón, the surplus energy that is injected into the general electricity grid is then recovered during the night using the grid as a battery.
With this system we achieve a double objective: economic savings for our company and the reduction of CO2 emissions to the environment.
An innovative system
José María Butrón points out that the system of photovoltaic panels installed at the headquarters of LA LÍNEA VERTICAL is very innovative in terms of the type of solar cell that is installed, “because it works even if we have diffuse (cloudy days), as it is a cell that does not need sunlight, but light”, he argues.
In this sense, he points out that traditional diffuse panels barely produce any energy, while the cells in the ones installed in our ship “generate 40% or more of their nominal power” on a cloudy day, something that “was impossible before”.

He also draws attention to the longevity of these photovoltaic panels, which last for more than 30 years, and says that they can be amortised in less than five years due to the fact that this technology has become much cheaper.
The equipment installed in LA LÍNEA VERTICAL can be monitored from any electronic device anywhere in the world, so that the energy being generated can be seen, the history can be consulted, balances can be drawn up and CO2 savings can be checked. In this way, it is possible to manage and have control of the energy generated and consumed by the building and compare it with the electricity bill. With these photovoltaic panels, we are taking an important step in the ecological transition of our facilities and are participating in a more active way in the care of the environment and in the mitigation of climate change.
