He started working at La Línea Vertical at the end of 2021 and in a few months, he moved to Germany. Manuel Ortega is currently the coordinator of our company at the BP Gelsenkirchen site in Germany.
He began his professional career in the field of non-destructive testing in 2017, in the company OCA Global, where he was initially an assistant. Subsequently, thanks to various training and certifications, he managed to become a non-destructive testing inspector. After two years, he moved to the company GRI Towers Sevilla, dedicated to the manufacture of wind towers, where he gained significant experience in the sector. After a little more than two years there, he had the opportunity to join La Línea Vertical, ‘which motivated me to look for a change of scenery and join a company with international projection’, he says.
He joined our company at the end of November 2021. He says that during the first few months, ‘I was in Spain carrying out inspections and adapting to the new way of working, which in this case includes working at heights. In March 2022, the project I am currently working on was finalised and I moved to Germany. After almost two years, the previous coordinator, Amancio, decided to leave and Carlos and Vanessa put their trust in me to take over this position’.
Coordination and fieldwork
His current job consists mainly of ‘ensuring that the work requested by our client, BP, is carried out properly within the agreed timeframe, providing the workers with all the necessary resources to achieve this’.
He explains that his duties as coordinator include the prior organisation of the work, which includes meetings with the client to assess the different tasks assigned to them, the distribution of staff and daily work, the management of the fleet of vehicles, communication with our partner, Bureau Veritas, within the temporary joint venture that we form and, finally, ensuring that ultrasonic procedures are complied with as supervisor of these tests at this centre. ‘On a day-to-day basis, I also carry out the same field work as the rest of my colleagues, such as ultrasonic inspections of pipelines and equipment at height or support at height when carrying out X-rays at height,’ he says.Manuel Ortega wants to highlight the work done by this company in promoting work at height: ‘La Línea Vertical, together with its great professionals, implemented this type of access here and since then, it has become a fundamental part of the testing companies. Everything indicates that in the future this practice will be extended to more places’.
