The Andalusian vertical rope rescue competition team, Espeleosocorro Sin Fronteras, is preparing for its participation in the 16th edition of Grimpday, the world championship par excellence of rescue at height, which will take place from 24th to 27th May in Marseille (France). A LÍNEA VERTICAL, the team’s main sponsor, has made its facilities and the facilities of STEC, with whom we are united in training, available for the team’s training sessions.
Berni Orihuela, one of the members of Espeleosocorro Sin Fronteras, says that in order to be well prepared, they are training in different spaces, both natural and urban, as well as closed facilities. He says that the LA LÍNEA VERTICAL & STEC facilities are the most interesting ones they are working in because they are multi-purpose and have different structures and spaces that allow them to recreate different scenarios and rescue scenarios.
Espeleosocorro Sin Fronteras has already won Grimpday twice and for its members, “it is a challenge to try to be among the best again”. The team stresses that the 2023 edition will be special because it will be held outside Belgium for the first time. On this occasion, 24 teams of 19 nationalities will take part, with Espeleosocorro Sin Fronteras being the only Spanish team.
The group expects to encounter technically challenging scenarios in Marseille and say that in addition to the competition itself, they are looking forward to the experience of sharing three days with teams from all over the world and continuing to learn.
Last March, Espeleosocorro Sin Fronteras took part in Grimp Japan 2023, the most important high-altitude rescue championship on the Asian continent, achieving third place. It is the first Spanish team to participate in this competition and it was the first time that a European team reached the podium.
