The importance of inspection and correct installation of lifelines

At LA LÍNEA VERTICAL we are specialists in the inspection of lifelines and personal protective equipment. Our specialists review and inspect the correct installation, certification, and approval of these anchoring systems, which are essential for the safety of vertical workers. Among other services, we issue reports on their condition, mark lines and repair them if necessary.

A lifeline is a protection system against falls from height, an anchoring system to protect and secure the work of technicians at height. At LA LÍNEA VERTICAL we inspect, install, and supply the main manufacturers of lifelines, such as: SKYLOTEC, 3M-CAPITAL SAFETY, GM, ROTHOBLASS and TRACTEL, among others. When working at heights, safety is a priority.

Basically, a lifeline protects against the risks of falling from heights with a fixed anchorage system, to which the safety harness is attached by means of an appropriate connector. It is therefore an effective fall arrest system.

In the event of a fall, they must be locked

Fall arrest devices, also known as fall arrest devices, must comply with EN 12841-A (AENOR, 2007), for use in Vertical Works. Many still have approval under EN 363-2 (AENOR, 2002), which is more focused on work at height.

According to this standard, fall arresters must move without manipulation along the rope, at least in one direction, and lock in the event of a fall. Their correct use is stipulated by each manufacturer, and special attention must be paid, as the user, to the compatible rope diameters and the method of installation.

Lifelines can be horizontal, installed in accordance with the UNE-EN 795 standard for one user and in accordance with the PNE-CEN/TS 16415 technical specification when they are to be used for more than one user. These lifelines allow the correct safety restraint of the operators, who must also use the corresponding fall arrest PPE.

Installed by personnel with accredited experience and training.

The best-known lifelines are vertical lifelines, installed in accordance with UNE-EN 353-1 and UNE-EN 353-2 standards. They can be made of cable or rope and must be used with the fall arrest device with which they have been certified.

Likewise, these lifelines can be temporary or fixed and must be installed by personnel with accredited experience and training, such as LA LÍNEA VERTICAL technicians. In workplaces where a lifeline is installed, the documentation relating to the installation data, specifically those supplied by the manufacturer, as well as those of the installer, must be present.

This documentation must also include information on the use, date of assembly, date of revision, resistances, types of support on which it has been installed, the carriages or fall arrest devices to be used, the identification sign, the corresponding signage, etc.

La Línea Vertical has been carrying out turnkey lifeline projects for more than 20 years; we take care of the planning and design of the installation, calculations and approved technical project, supply of the equipment, installation at the clients, training in use and training of personnel and, of course, periodic review or maintenance of these systems already installed.
