At La Línea Vertical we are concerned about the training of our staff, so that our technicians take annual courses to keep up to date and improve their technical skills, so that they are always prepared for any emergency that may arise for our customers and work with the maximum safety guarantees.
In the last week of August, the members of La Línea Vertical’s Shut Down Support Group (GAP) received specific training to refresh their knowledge. The course was given by Manuel Gómez and David Rondón, Formal trainers, and the first aid training was given by INDRA‘s trainer, Alejo de la Torre, at our training and research centre for work at height risks. Manuel Gómez highlights the high participation of workers in the course (around 30 technicians in total) and the motivation of the students.
The main goals of this course were to reinforce knowledge of rescue techniques for suspended persons and in confined spaces, to adapt knowledge to the evolution of risks depending on the workplace, to update knowledge and techniques in the use of air-supplied and filtering breathing apparatus, to update handling techniques, first aid and assessment of casualties, and to update techniques and knowledge in first aid.
The programme of these internal training days for GAP rescue teams consisted of several thematic modules, some focused on advanced rope rescue techniques at height and in confined spaces, and others on first aid. Specifically, there was an update on basic and advanced installations of systems for lifting and lowering victims in suspension, and an update on knowledge and protocols for rescue in confined spaces; practical knowledge on the handling of the different types of rescue stretcher at height and in confined spaces, application techniques for the different types of immobilisers and traumas, the evolution of risks prior to an intervention and methods to strengthen leadership and command of the different team leaders were also covered.
The Shut Down Support Group (GAP) of La Línea Vertical is made up of qualified personnel to attend to a possible emergency of a worker at height or in confined spaces, whether it is an accident or a health problem, hence the training includes both rescue and first aid techniques
The GAPs also carry out preventive work, monitoring work areas for the need to install fall arrest systems and horizontal or vertical lifelines. They also give short talks or ‘training pills’ on site to workers at heights and in confined spaces on the use of autonomous and semi-autonomous equipment.
In addition to in-house training, Formal organises industrial technical rope rescue courses for different worker profiles, both basic and advanced. It is approved to give training courses in the most internationally recognised rope positioning standards, as well as courses for the Naval sector.
